Bathroom Remodeling
This master bathroom remodel in Alexandria, VA blends clean, modern design with warm gold accents and thoughtful functionality. The space was completely reimagined to create a more open layout, a dedicated toilet room, and a high-end spa-like feel—all while keeping everyday usability in mind.
From the freestanding tub to the full-height frameless glass shower, every detail was carefully selected and installed to deliver a polished, timeless result.
Project Overview
Location: Alexandria, VA
Scope: Full master bathroom renovation including layout changes, new cabinetry, tile work, plumbing, and electrical updates.We started with full demolition and preparation of the existing space, coordinating closely with the client before moving forward. The goal was to improve both layout and aesthetics—adding storage, upgrading finishes, and creating a more functional flow.
Vanity & Cabinetry
The new double vanity features Fabuwood Allure Series cabinetry in the Imperio door style (Dove finish). These cabinets offer:
- Full plywood construction
- Solid wood frames, doors, and drawer fronts
- Soft-close doors and drawer systems
- Lifetime warranty
To complete the look, we installed Jeffrey Alexander Hayworth Collection pulls in brushed gold, adding a subtle contrast against the white cabinetry.
The vanity is topped with a quartz countertop with a smooth pencil edge and 4″ backsplash, paired with two undermount white porcelain sinks for a clean, seamless finish.
Tile & Flooring
A consistent Calacatta-look porcelain tile was used throughout the space to create a cohesive, elegant design.
- Bathroom Floor: 12″ x 24″ porcelain tile with cement board and proper underlayment
- Shower Walls: Full-height tile with brushed gold Schluter edging
- Wet Wall (Vanity Area): Tiled from floor to countertop height with matching finishes
- Shower Floor: Custom-built with Calacatta hexagon mosaic tile and a brushed gold drain
The combination of large-format tile and gold accents gives the space a bright, upscale feel without overwhelming it.
Custom Shower & Bathtub Features
The shower was designed as a fully custom space with both functionality and aesthetics in mind:
- Frameless 3/8″ glass shower enclosure extending to full ceiling height (96″)
- Custom recessed shower niche (36″ x 20″) with gold Schluter trim
- Waterproofing system including cement board, rubber liner, thinset, and RedGard
Next to the shower, the freestanding bathtub becomes a focal point, enhanced by:
- Two recessed bathtub niches for storage
- Matching tile and gold trim for continuity
Layout Changes & Framing
One of the biggest upgrades in this project was improving the layout:
- Built two full-height walls to create a dedicated toilet room
- Relocated plumbing for both the toilet and double vanity
- Added a new window opening in the shower area for the glass panel
These changes made the bathroom feel more organized, private, and functional.
Electrical & Lighting Updates
To support the new layout and improve lighting:
- Relocated two vanity light fixtures
- Added two GFCI outlets for the double vanity
- Installed a new recessed LED light in the toilet room
- Replaced the recessed light in the shower (client-provided fixture)
Finishing Details
All related drywall areas were patched, sanded, and primed to ensure a smooth surface ready for painting. Every transition—from tile edges to trim work—was completed with attention to detail to maintain a consistent, high-quality finish.
