Kitchen Remodeling
This kitchen remodel in Washington D.C. was designed to create a brighter, more open space while keeping a warm and natural feel throughout the home. By removing dividing walls and reworking the layout, the kitchen now flows seamlessly into the surrounding living areas while offering better storage, improved functionality, and a clean contemporary design.
The combination of natural wood tones, soft painted finishes, light quartz countertops, and subtle gray backsplash tile gives the space a calm and inviting atmosphere. Every detail was selected to balance modern simplicity with everyday comfort.
Project Overview
Location: Washington D.C.
This contemporary kitchen remodel was designed to create a brighter, more open, and highly functional living space with a clean modern aesthetic and warm natural finishes. By removing dividing walls between the kitchen and surrounding living areas, the layout was completely transformed into an open-concept design with improved flow, better natural light, and a more spacious feel.
The project features custom Medallion Cabinetry with a combination of warm wood textures and soft painted finishes, MSI quartz countertops, porcelain tile backsplash, updated recessed lighting, refinished hardwood flooring, and upgraded electrical, plumbing, and ventilation systems.
The final result is a warm and inviting modern kitchen that blends natural materials with contemporary design while improving both functionality and everyday comfort.
Opening Up the Kitchen Layout
One of the biggest transformations in this remodel came from opening the kitchen to the surrounding living spaces. We removed the dividing walls between the kitchen, entrance area, and living room to create a brighter and more connected layout.
The new open-concept design completely changed the feel of the home, allowing more natural light to flow through the space while creating a better layout for everyday living and entertaining.
Custom Medallion Cabinetry
The homeowners selected custom Medallion Cabinetry featuring a warm natural wood finish paired with soft painted cabinetry for a clean and contemporary look. The flat-panel cabinet design gives the kitchen a sleek modern appearance while still keeping the space warm and inviting.
The cabinetry package included:
- All plywood cabinet construction
- Solid wood frames, doors, and drawer fronts
- Soft-close doors and drawer glides
- Custom hood enclosure and integrated ventilation
- Expanded storage and improved organization throughout the kitchen
The natural wood textures combined with the light finishes help create a balanced and timeless design.
Quartz Countertops & Tile Backsplash
To brighten the space and provide long-term durability, the kitchen was finished with MSI Quartz countertops throughout the entire kitchen.
The quartz surfaces feature a clean, low-maintenance finish that complements the cabinetry beautifully while providing excellent performance for everyday cooking and entertaining.
The backsplash was completed with soft gray porcelain tile installed across all kitchen walls between the countertops and upper cabinets. The subtle texture and neutral color help add dimension without overwhelming the design.
Updated Lighting & Electrical Improvements
Modern recessed lighting was added throughout the kitchen to improve both brightness and functionality. We installed six new GFCI outlets, added four new LED recessed lights, and ran new dedicated electrical lines for the relocated appliances and ventilation system.
The updated lighting creates a much brighter workspace while giving the kitchen a clean modern finish.
New Ventilation, Plumbing & Appliance Connections
The kitchen was fully updated behind the walls as well. Our team relocated plumbing lines for the refrigerator, capped the old gas line, installed new electrical connections, and added new ventilation for the custom hood system.
Once construction was complete, all appliances and plumbing fixtures were professionally connected, including:
- Kitchen sink and faucet
- Dishwasher
- Refrigerator
- Microwave
- Hood system
- Garbage disposal
The kitchen also features a PRIMA double basin sink paired with a Kohler Crue pull-down faucet in Vibrant Stainless finish for a sleek and functional workspace.
Hardwood Flooring Refinishing
To help the newly opened layout feel cohesive, we refinished the hardwood flooring throughout both the kitchen and living room areas. The warm wood flooring ties the entire space together and complements the Oak Biscotti cabinetry beautifully.
New white wood baseboards were also installed to complete the updated finish work.
A Bright & Functional Everyday Kitchen
This remodel successfully transformed a closed-off kitchen into an open, functional, and highly inviting living space. The combination of warm cabinetry, modern finishes, improved lighting, and better flow created a kitchen that feels both contemporary and comfortable for everyday living.
From the custom Medallion cabinetry to the quartz countertops and refinished hardwood floors, every detail was carefully selected to create a timeless kitchen design built for both style and functionality.
