This contemporary kitchen remodel in a beautiful Reston, VA townhouse was all about blending style with function. The homeowners loved their clean, modern aesthetic but wanted to soften the look and improve how the kitchen worked day to day.
We made a few smart layout changes—especially around the peninsula—to improve flow, then gave the entire kitchen a fresh, inviting update with new cabinets, countertops, backsplash, lighting, and fixtures. The result? A warm and sophisticated kitchen that feels just as good as it looks.

A Contemporary Kitchen with Personality
While the structure of the kitchen remained modern and minimalist, we added thoughtful touches to give the space more depth and personality. One of our favorite features is the custom 6″ open shelving cabinet in a Sheer wood tone. It brings warmth, texture, and a great spot to showcase dishes or decor.
The rest of the cabinetry is Fabuwood Luna Dove, a soft gray that keeps things sleek but not cold. With soft-close doors and drawers, solid wood fronts, and a durable plywood box, this cabinet line blends beauty and practicality.
Quartz Countertops & Waterfall Peninsula
We installed MSI Miraggio Gold Quartz throughout the kitchen for a clean yet elegant look. It features subtle gold veining that pairs beautifully with the hardware and backsplash. The waterfall edge on the peninsula adds a modern statement, while the 12″ overhang allows for casual seating.
Herringbone Backsplash for a Stylish Finish
To bring texture and warmth, we used double herringbone porcelain tile all the way to the ceiling behind the sink. The light tones of the Mar Iceberg tile add dimension while keeping the space bright and fresh.
Fixtures That Complete the Look
Sink: Ruvati Roma 23″ stainless steel undermount
Faucet: Signature Hardware’s Ocala pull-out sprayer
Hardware: Jeffrey Alexander satin nickel knobs and pulls
Disposal: InSinkErator Badger 5 with Soundseal
Appliances were hooked up and reconnected in their updated locations, including a new water line to the refrigerator and downdraft ventilation relocation.
New Lighting & Electrical Work
We modernized the lighting plan to match the contemporary kitchen design:
Eight new 4” LED recessed lights with a dimmer
Under-cabinet LED lighting to highlight the counters
New GFCI outlets added around the kitchen and peninsula
Relocated switches and new dedicated lines for the oven and fridge
Ceiling fan installed (client provided)
Flooring, Ventilation, and Final Touches
Refinished existing hardwood floors in the kitchen and dining room
Moved the air vent into the toe kick for a seamless cabinet run
Patched drywall and reworked walls for new cabinet layout
Updated plumbing and electrical throughout for a fully refreshed space
